Our History

In 1980 African countries have realized the seriousness and preoccupying situation of the African economy in general and the energy sector in particular.

Leadership

The leadership of AFREC is led by the AUC Chairperson (H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat), Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy of the African Union Commission (H.E. Amani Abou-Zeid) and the AFREC’s Executive Director (Mr. Rashid Ali Abdallah).

The residential sector represents the largest part of energy consumption in Africa. This sector is divided into five main fuel sources i.e. firewood, charcoal, biomass, fossil fuels and electricity fuel consumption. AFREC is engaging experts to enlighten Member States to better these and more energy efficiency indicators.
